The Pediatric Department's Center for Disability Resources, under the direction of
Richard R. Ferrante, Ph.D., is one of the nation's sixty one University Centers for
Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Services
(UCE), known formerly as University Affiliated Programs.
Established at the University of South Carolina in 1975, the Center is committed to promoting the
independence, productivity, and inclusion of persons with a wide range of disabilities.
Through a combination of federal, state, and private funding, the Center currently
has more than a dozen projects that train professionals and families, develop
and administer model service delivery programs, provide technical support, and
disseminate information about project outcomes and research. Additionally, the Center is
home to the Carolina Autism Resource and Evaluation Center, and Assistive Technology
Resource Center, and a multidisciplinary developmental pediatric clinic that serves
children statewide.
