 The University of South Carolina School of
Medicine Department of Pediatrics/Palmetto Health Residency Training Program is a fully ACGME accredited three-year
program with 9 residents at each level.
Our teaching focuses on the belief that every pediatrician, whether
academician or practitioner, should first be a well-trained generalist. Our inpatient and
outpatient programs are directed by academic generalists, augmented by
subspecialists, and based on continuity care in the private setting as the best model for learning and
delivering health care. Our commitment to teaching is demonstrated by our
Pediatric Board pass rates, which have been higher than the national average for the past
nine years. The innovative programs in advocacy and practice management that are
offered provide residents with the experience to function as a child advocate and
manage a practice in today's medical business climate.
The Children's Hospital of Palmetto Health is a 170 bed, state-wide pediatric referral
center that attracts patients from all 46 counties in South Carolina. Each year
Children's Hospital cares for more than 73,000 infants, children and adolescents
through its inpatient and outpatient facilities.
